Medical tourism is gaining popularity today. The fact is that every day there are various modern methods of diagnosing and treating diseases that are not available in hospitals in the countries. In addition, foreign experts have much more experience in dealing with a particular disease. Therefore, treatment abroad is becoming more and more in demand. According to the publication "Medical travel", about 30 million medical trips are made per year.
Further, on the page we will talk about popular areas of medicine abroad, the achievements of foreign specialists in the treatment of the most common diseases, and the best clinics in the world.

The cost of treatment abroad
Patients believe that treatment abroad is very expensive. However, this is not always the case. In some cases, the cost of therapy is even lower than in the home country. For example, the price for the services of plastic surgeons in Turkey and Korea is sometimes lower than in hospitals in the developing countries.
Of course, there are also expensive services. For example, the cost of CAR T-cell therapy is very high, since T-lymphocytes are modified in the laboratory for treatment. The price is also high for bone marrow transplantation since the price includes the patient's stay in the clinic for more than 90 days after the procedure in a special box.
Treatment costs depend on many factors:
- the number of diagnostic procedures needed to make an accurate diagnosis;
- the chosen method of treatment;
- if it is an operation - the volume and type of intervention;
- rehabilitation costs;
- rating of the clinic and the celebrity of the attending physician, etc.
The table below shows prices for some popular services in foreign clinics. For more information about prices, please contact our coordinators. They will request a calculation of therapy in the clinic of your choice, taking into account individual indicators.

In the world's leading clinics, patients can receive everything that is not available to them in their native country. Medical centers in Turkey, Israel, Germany, and other countries can offer:
- diagnostics of pathologies with 100% accuracy, including the ability to undergo a check-up of the body to detect diseases at the earliest stages;
- operations, procedures, and drugs that are not available in hospitals in the developing countries (robot-assisted operations, targeted and immune therapy, proton therapy, treatment with Lutetium-177, deep brain stimulation, etc.);
- high level of service and comfortable conditions, special package offers, etc.
Diagnostics abroad
Many medical tourists turn to foreign clinics for examination or in order to confirm the diagnosis that they were given at home. Unfortunately, statistics show the quality of diagnostics in the developing countries: for example, in Israeli medical centers, about 30% of diagnoses in patients from post-Soviet countries turn out to be false.
Abroad, there is everything you need to identify a health problem in 100% of cases. Check-up programs are available for patients who wish to undergo preventive screening. This is a set of diagnostic procedures, selected according to certain criteria. For example, a basic check-up allows you to get general information about a patient's health. Also abroad, programs are available in the following areas:
- check-up "Healthy heart";
- gynecological or urological check-up;
- examination of the child;
- package for women or men 40+, 50+, 60+, etc.
With certain complaints, the patient undergoes an initial consultation with a specialist who draws up a comprehensive diagnostic program. Abroad, such examinations are available as:
- digital angiography of blood vessels;
- mammography;
- endoscopic diagnostics: gastroscopy, colonoscopy (with the possibility of taking a biopsy);
- ultrasound diagnostics;
- CT or MRI;
- PET-CT to detect cancer metastases;
- laboratory diagnostics, including genetic testing of the tumor to select the optimal drugs for its treatment.
In foreign clinics, there are advanced models of equipment for conducting examinations. Expert-class devices allow you to get more accurate and detailed images of the internal structures of organs and tissues, to see violations in great detail. For example, during an MRI with a power of 3 Tesla, doctors can detect small tumors of a few mm. During the colonoscopy, due to the special spectral mode of endoscopic systems, it is possible to see a malignant process even before the formation of a tumor, at the stage of changes in the mucous layer.
Unique methods of treatment abroad
In some cases, a particular procedure or medication may be the patient's only chance to save a life. However, many of the latest developments in the medical field are not available in developing countries. It is for them that patients are forced to go abroad.
- Robot-assisted surgery. Minimally invasive interventions using the Da Vinci robot are performed to remove cancer, treat pathologies of the chest, and cardiovascular system, and even organ transplants. The operation goes through several punctures, minimizing tissue trauma. The maneuverability of the robotic endo-wrist allows manipulations to be performed more precisely, despite the difficult location of the tumor and the limited space. After such treatment, patients recover many times faster and easier than after open abdominal operations.
- CAR T cell therapy. A unique technique for the treatment of hematological pathologies. This is the genetic modification of T-lymphocytes in the laboratory, which then calculate and attack malignant cells. This is a very expensive treatment that is available in a limited number of clinics ( Spain, Israel, etc.)
- Proton Therapy. A gentle variant of irradiation, which is prescribed even for children. Unlike traditional radiation therapy, it causes fewer side effects. Proton therapy is also not available in all countries.
- Bone marrow transplant. Stem cell transplantation is also not always available in the developing countries, so patients go abroad for this procedure. In clinics abroad, all types of BMT are performed: autologous (transplantation of own cells), and allogeneic (transplantation of donor cells). Both a compatible relative and any person from the Stem Cell Bank who meets the criteria can become a donor. After the procedure, the patient stays in rooms equipped with special HEPA filters, which reduces the risk of infections to zero. Foreign specialists manage to achieve high efficiency in treatment. Thus, in the well-known children's hospital of San Juan De Deu, about 96% of BMT procedures are successful.
- Deep brain stimulation. Thanks to this technique, patients with a drug-resistant form of epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, got a chance to reduce the severity of the symptoms of the disease. This is a minimally invasive operation, during which electrodes are implanted in the brain, and a neurostimulator is implanted under the collarbone. After setting up, the device stimulates certain areas of the brain, suppressing the occurrence of seizures.
- Targeted and immune therapy for cancer. Medical centers abroad actively use innovative drugs for the treatment of cancer. In addition to chemotherapy, targeted and immune therapy is prescribed abroad. The first type of drug acts specifically on abnormal cells, while the second type stimulates the immune system to fight cancer.
- Awake craniotomy. High-tech interventions on the brain, when the patient is conscious and interacts with the surgeon. Such operations allow removing brain tumors located next to vital structures. So, in foreign hospitals, there were cases when patients played musical instruments during the operation.
Priority medical directions
Both specialized clinics and multidisciplinary hospitals function abroad, where the patient can receive high-quality medical care in any direction.
Oncology
Cancer treatment is one of the most common reasons for visiting a foreign center. Cancer patients go abroad for sparing organ-preserving operations, new medicines, and sparing methods of irradiation. Israeli specialists succeeded in this direction. Turkish clinics and hospitals in Germany, Korea, and Spain are also popular.
Neurosurgery
Patients with pathologies of the nervous system abroad receive the full range of assistance: from diagnosis to rehabilitation. Patients with neoplasms of the brain and spinal cord can undergo sparing microsurgical operations, radiosurgery with Gamma Knife and CyberKnife, and awake craniotomy procedures. Minimally invasive techniques are also used by foreign neurosurgeons to treat vascular anomalies. We are talking about endovascular stenting, coiling, etc.
Also, foreign specialists effectively treat neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, etc. Among patients with diseases of the central nervous system and PNS, clinics in Germany, Israel, Turkey, and South Korea are popular. More details can be found on this page.
Cardiac surgery
In the treatment of pathologies of the cardiovascular system, specialists also prefer minimally invasive surgery. Abroad, patients can undergo transcatheter replacement and valve repair, coronary artery stenting, and correction of congenital heart defects. Doctors also specialize in the treatment of arrhythmias by installing artificial pacemakers and performing radiofrequency ablation procedures.
Changing appearance is another popular destination for medical tourism. Foreign plastic surgeons can both make minor adjustments and radically change their appearance. Experts from Turkey and South Korea succeeded in this area. The most popular plastic procedures are available in these countries:
- mammoplasty;
- rhinoplasty;
- liposuction;
- blepharoplasty, etc.
