I did not have much confidence in neurosurgeons in my country, so I considered the treatment of astrocytoma in the near abroad. I visited Czech Republic for getting a Deep Brain Stimulation done for my epilepsy treatment. Despite visiting numerous orthopedic specialists for my osteoarthritis. There was no improvement in my condition. The doctors prescribed pain killers but they weren't effective enough. In August 2021, I contacted Clinics on Call coordinators for my younger daughter’s treatment. She was experiencing seizures, and it was difficult for us as a family to provide her best treatment. I have always heard good reviews about Dr. Tomas at Motol Hospital. My colleague had a good experience with her knee treatment from the surgeon. I had a terrible accident last year, and my shoulder was severely injured. I went to Dr. Tomas for my treatment, and he suggested shoulder arthroplasty since there was no other way to recover the fractured shoulder. He performed the procedure after three days and kept me under observation for ten days. He also encouraged rehabilitation for quick recovery. After ten days, I went back home. My wife had gallbladder stones, but we were not aware of her situation. Last year we traveled to the Czech Republic for a business trip, and she got ill. I visited Czech Republic 3 months ago to get my hip replacement surgery. The surgery went fine. After the surgery my doctor recommended to go for physiotherapy. Since that would help me to recover quickly and to get used to walking and other stuff. Once the physiotherapy sessions were over I was suggested to use a walking aid for a few weeks and to gradually add weight on that leg. Thanks to the physio sessions I faced no issues and recovered early as well.

My mother had been suffering from joint pain for a long time. It was getting worse day by day. One day a friend of mine told me about the Clinics on Call, which is a leading medical service agency. My father had an accident last year, and he fractured his hip bone. Due to severe injuries, he was unable to move. It was a very difficult phase for him as he was working as a senior manager in a firm. Despite all the treatment facilities, he was in severe pain. I took him to Dr. Libor at Malvazinky clinic as he is an expert for rehabilitation. My father was hesitant as he had many rehabilitation therapies in the past however I had always heard good reviews about the doctor. He checked my father and suggested that he undergo a three months rehabilitation program at the hospital. Initially, I was not ready as I wanted my father to have home care, but the treatment was important for him. After a thorough consultation, my father got admitted to the hospital. He completed his three months rehabilitation program, and it went well. His movement was improved, and he was able to move without assistance. After that, Dr. Libor suggested hip replacement as a final treatment for his fractured bone. My father agreed to the surgery. After a week, he underwent a hip replacement. The procedure went well, and now my father is able to perform his tasks without any help. He visits the clinic every three months for his follow-ups. Overall it was a good experience. Dr. Libor did an amazing job.

Damage to bladder/prostate/bowel area caused by proton beam therapy treatment as mentioned below and shown in the attached photos.
Medical report:
Post treatment urologist ,relevant part of his report dated 16.08.19: "large and highly inflamed rigid vasular prostate. Mild bulb structure. Large red patches over bladder and prostate, severe radiation cystitis"
Post treatment gastroenterologist,relevant part of report dated 4.09.19: "radiation proctitis,moderate low rectum, upper anal canal anteriorly. Haemorrhoids moderate
Diverticulosis- minor left sided
Suspect bleeding coming from proctitis rather haemorrhoids "
Facts : traveled from Sydney Australia ,treatment Jan /Feb 2018 .
True, it is pain free during the 10 min treatment period, adverse effects on me started after 5 days, was definitely not pain free to urinate. Tablets were given by the clinic to ease this pain.
In about June 2018, problem of pain and passing blood developed rear passage, settled after aboutt 3 months with antibiotic support from Prague Proton Beam Centre. Needed to use a cushion to sit on for this time for some pain relief.
In approx March/ April 2019 (approx 14months later) excessive urination developed, at its worst I was urinating 25-30 times a day, medical GP treated for urinary tract infection with different antibiotics without success. Referred to a Sydney radiation oncologist who put me on the drug ciproflxacin.
He believed the infection was in the prostate and needed this strong antibiotic to penetrate. It can have noticeable side effects and It caused a major issue with my achilles tendon ! I then proceeded to travel overseas .I was still urinating approx hourly at the commencement of my trip. There are apps showing public toilets in cities, very helpful.
The oncologist also referred me to a urologist which resulted in the attached photos and report recording the damage done by my treatment.
The urologist suggested hyperbaric treatment may help heal the radiation damaged bladder etc.
I visited a specialised hyperbaric unit ,the doctor required a cancer free report of rear passage area before I could have treatment . This resulted in photo 2 and report of further damage to the rear passage area. No cancer was evident.
I proceeded initially to have 29 hyberbaric treatments daily excluding weekends then a break of a couple of months as away and then a further 20 hyberbaric treatments in hospital.
PSA results: 18.11 19 dropped down to 0 .82 .( my lowest reading)
Last test was up 2's ,still within acceptable guidance by Prague .
Incontinence issues: no pads etc needed, major problem only with infection .
Would I have proceeded with proton beam therapy treatment knowing the above with the associated high cost to me?
DEFINITELY NOT
I want to state very clearly that I complied fully, as evidenced by my travelling companion, with the Proton Therapy Clinic's requirements to ensure the bladder and bowel area was not resting on the prostate during treatment.
