I recently experienced an Intracranial Hematoma, which was a scary and challenging situation to deal with. It started with a sudden and severe headache, followed by nausea and vomiting, and then I started feeling confused and disoriented. I was rushed to the Quironsalud Hospital Madrid, where I underwent a CT scan that showed bleeding in my brain. The doctors quickly diagnosed me with an Intracranial Hematoma and took me into surgery to remove the clot. The procedure was successful, and I am grateful to the skilled medical team that saved my life. The recovery process was not easy, as I had to spend some time in the ICU and then in a rehabilitation center to regain my strength and mobility. I also had to take medication to prevent seizures and manage my pain. Now, several months after the incident, I am still dealing with some residual symptoms, such as headaches and memory problems. However, I am slowly but surely regaining my independence and returning to my normal activities.

Diagnosis of glioblastoma in Spain
Glioblastoma of the brain involves complex treatment, as cancer cells begin to metastasize rapidly. To determine the type of tumor and its prevalence, in Spain they prescribe:
- An extensive blood test (including a test for tumor markers).
- Modern imaging techniques such as PET-CT/MRI/CT. Powerful devices help not only to identify the location of the neoplasia but also to determine how deeply the neoplasm has penetrated into the brain tissue. Visualizers help doctors develop the most adaptive treatment regimen and choose the appropriate method of surgical intervention.
- Biopsy. An informative analysis that allows you to accurately determine the type of tumor cells and the degree of their aggressiveness.
In Spain, the examination can take from 3 to 6 days.
Treatment of glioblastoma in Spain
- Therapy for glioblastoma largely depends on the stage of development of the disease. Given that this form of cancer is the most aggressive, Spanish specialists are developing an effective treatment regimen.
- It may include an operation to remove a neoplasm, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, targeted treatment and, if indicated, radiosurgery with the latest Cyber-Knife, and Gamma-Knife installations.
- The Teknon Medical Center uses a Novalis linear accelerator, as well as an improved LINAC model.
Surgery for glioblastoma
In Spanish oncology centers, minimally invasive techniques are mainly used to remove a brain tumor. Considering that cancer cells in glioblastoma have the ability to grow rapidly, surgery is always accompanied by radiotherapy and chemotherapy to completely destroy the cancer process. Neurosurgeons use intraoperative MRI. After excision of the neoplasia, the patient is transferred to the MRI unit.
If the machine detects remnants of cancer cells, the surgeon can remove the remaining diseased areas without interrupting surgery. Also, to remove the tumor in Spain, a modern type of craniotomy is performed - awake craniotomy. The essence of this operation is that the patient is conscious, which allows neurosurgeons to accurately manipulate and monitor the safety of the patient's cognitive functions.
Chemotherapy
Drug treatment with chemotherapy drugs is an integral part of glioblastoma. Spanish chemotherapists individually develop a treatment regimen, taking into account the characteristics of the body of each patient. Chemotherapy can be prescribed both before surgery (to stop the growth of cancer cells and reduce neoplasia), and after surgery (to completely destroy the cancerous process).
