My daughter was twelve months old when we noticed unusual symptoms and body movements in her. We had no family history of autism, but I had sufficient knowledge about this condition. We took her to a doctor at Teknon Medical Center and discussed her symptoms. The doctor started ABA therapy for her, and it worked well. Now she is three years old, and 70% of her symptoms have been reduced. Thanks to her amazing doctor.

I got my tumor removed at Quironsalud Teknon Medical Center. Although it was a benign tumor, I was extremely worried, but the doctors at Teknon Medical Center made everything easy. I had to undergo two sessions of radiation therapy, but I am glad to announce that the tumor is gone. I am extremely grateful to ClinicsonCall for connecting me to Teknon Medical Center.

I recently had a PET MRI Scan at Teknon Medical Center, and I must say that the experience was surprisingly comfortable. From the moment I walked in, the staff made sure I felt at ease, taking the time to explain the procedure and address any concerns. The technicians were incredibly patient and understanding, making sure I was comfortable before starting the scan. The facility itself was clean and well-maintained, contributing to an overall positive experience. I appreciate the care I received at Teknon Medical Center during my scan.

My son was born with scoliosis, and his hunched back deprived him of many activities that a normal kid would do. We started searching for the treatment, but it was unavailable in our country. We decided to search abroad and found out about clinics on call through a friend. We were set up with their coordinator, who suggested we consult Dr. Bartolme Oliver. We did a thorough research on the Internet and decided to visit him. Fortunately, the doctor said it was possible to correct the scoliosis for which he did the surgery. We stayed in Spain for six months, which was worth it. Dr. Oliver was very supportive and helpful throughout our journey.

I recently underwent treatment for a spinal cyst, and I must say that the care I received at Quironsalud Hospital Madrid was exceptional. My symptoms were quite debilitating and had been affecting my quality of life for some time, but the doctors and staff at the hospital were incredibly compassionate and attentive to my needs. The diagnostic process was thorough and efficient, and my doctor explained everything to me so that I knew exactly what was happening. The treatment plan was tailored to my situation, and the surgical procedure went smoothly without complications. After the surgery, I received excellent follow-up care, with regular check-ins to monitor my progress and ensure I was recovering well. I am feeling much better now and can enjoy my daily activities without pain or discomfort. I am satisfied with the care I received and would highly recommend this hospital to anyone in need of similar treatment.

I recently experienced an Intracranial Hematoma, which was a scary and challenging situation to deal with. It started with a sudden and severe headache, followed by nausea and vomiting, and then I started feeling confused and disoriented. I was rushed to the Quironsalud Hospital Madrid, where I underwent a CT scan that showed bleeding in my brain. The doctors quickly diagnosed me with an Intracranial Hematoma and took me into surgery to remove the clot. The procedure was successful, and I am grateful to the skilled medical team that saved my life. The recovery process was not easy, as I had to spend some time in the ICU and then in a rehabilitation center to regain my strength and mobility. I also had to take medication to prevent seizures and manage my pain. Now, several months after the incident, I am still dealing with some residual symptoms, such as headaches and memory problems. However, I am slowly but surely regaining my independence and returning to my normal activities.

I recently underwent MRI-Guided Stereotactic Laser Ablation for a brain tumor at Quironsalud Madrid, and I have to say that the procedure was nothing short of amazing. The team of doctors who performed the procedure were incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, and they explained everything to me in detail so that I knew what to expect. They also ensured that I was comfortable throughout the process and that all my questions were answered. The procedure was quick and painless, and I could go home the same day. I had some mild discomfort and headache for a few days afterwards, but it was nothing that could not be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. I am incredibly grateful for the care and attention that I received.

I was diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) after my premature birth. Initially, my parents were very worried about my health and future development, but with the help of my doctors and therapists at Quironsalud Hospital Valencia, I have been able to make progress and reach important milestones. Living with PVL has its challenges, including motor difficulties, speech delays, and learning disabilities. However, I have received great support from my family, caregivers, and medical team, who have worked tirelessly to provide me with the best possible care and interventions. Although PVL is a lifelong condition, I am determined to keep pushing myself and achieving my goals. I am grateful for the love and care I have received, and I am optimistic about my future. My team at Quironsalud Hospital Valencia is very supportive.

I was diagnosed with an AVM a few months ago, and it was quite scary to learn about this condition. However, I am very grateful to have been able to receive proper treatment and care from my doctors at Quironsalud Hospital Valencia. Initially, I did not know much about AVMs and was concerned about what the diagnosis would mean for my health. My doctors did a great job explaining the condition to me and the treatment options available. They recommended that I undergo embolization followed by surgery to remove the AVM. The procedure itself was not too difficult, and I was able to return home the next day. The recovery process was a bit more challenging, but my medical team gave me great support and care. They made sure that I was comfortable and provided me with all the necessary information. Now that I have fully recovered, I feel grateful for the care I received and the successful treatment. I feel much better and am able to resume my daily activities without any problems.

As a patient diagnosed with an aneurysm of the cerebral artery, I wanted to share my experience to help others who may be going through the same thing. Firstly, the diagnosis itself was a shock. I had been experiencing some mild headaches, but I never expected to be told that I had a bulge in the blood vessel in my brain. The medical team at Quironsalud Valencia was very reassuring, and they explained the condition to me in detail, which helped me understand what was happening. The treatment process was also smooth. I was offered two options: surgery or endovascular coiling. After careful consideration, I chose endovascular coiling. The procedure was performed under local anesthesia, and I could go home the next day. I experienced some headaches and fatigue for a few days, but overall, it was smooth. I had to take some time off work to rest, but after a week or so, I could resume my normal activities.

I recently underwent a discectomy to reconstruct my intervertebral cartilage, and I could not be happier with the results. Prior to the surgery, I was experiencing chronic back pain and limited mobility. My doctor at Quironsalud Hospital Valencia recommended this procedure to address the root cause of my discomfort. The surgery itself was relatively straightforward, and my recovery time was minimal. Within a few weeks, I noticed a significant improvement. I no longer experience the constant pain I had grown accustomed to, and I can move around more freely. The reconstruction surgery has truly been life-changing for me. I can now enjoy activities I had previously given up on due to my back pain. I would highly recommend this procedure to anyone who is experiencing similar issues.

As a patient recently diagnosed with Malignant Schwannoma, I would like to share my experience with others facing the same diagnosis. I am a 45-year-old woman who noticed a lump in my leg a few months ago. Initially, I thought it was just a benign cyst, but after consulting with my doctor at Quironsalud Hospital Valencia and undergoing a series of tests, I was diagnosed with Malignant Schwannoma. Although the diagnosis was initially difficult to accept, I felt grateful that my doctor caught it early and we could start treatment immediately. I underwent surgery to remove the tumor, followed by radiation therapy. The treatment was challenging, but I had an excellent medical team who supported me throughout the process.

Who is a Good Candidate for Prostatectomy?

Prostatectomy may be recommended for patients with prostate cancer who have a life expectancy of more than 10 years and are in good health. The decision to undergo prostatectomy will depend on various factors, including the stage and grade of cancer, the patient's age, overall health, and personal preferences.

Patients with prostate cancer that are confined to the prostate gland are generally good candidates for prostatectomy. However, people with advanced prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate gland may not be suitable candidates for this procedure. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of prostatectomy with your doctor and make an informed decision based on your individual circumstances.

Preparing For Prostatectomy

The Urologist will examine the patient physically and ensure that the patient is in good condition to undergo this surgery. The following are the steps that will be followed in preparing for Prostatectomy:

  • The Surgeon will conduct some tests like blood and urine analysis, transrectal ultrasound, Prostate biopsy, bone scan, CT scan, and MRI to make an accurate diagnosis and determine the best surgical approach.
  • The Doctor will review your current medications and may advise you to stop taking certain medications that can increase the risk of bleeding or interfere with anesthesia.
  • You will be provided with pre-operative instructions, such as when to stop eating and drinking before surgery.
  • Your urologist will also discuss post-operative care with you, including pain management, recovery exercises, and how to care for your catheter after surgery.
  • The Doctor should be informed about any medication the patient takes with or without a prescription. These may include supplements or herbs, or drugs.
  • The patient may be required to take laxative medicine in the evening before the surgery if their intestine needs to be cleaned out before surgery.

Diagnostic Tests Before Prostatectomy in Spain

Before a Prostatectomy, Doctors in Spain may perform various diagnostic tests, including:

  2. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Blood Test
  3. Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS) Guided Biopsy

Different Types of Prostatectomy Procedures in Spain

Following are the different types of Prostatectomy Procedures in Spain

1. Radical Prostatectomy

Radical Prostatectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the complete removal of the Prostate Gland and some surrounding tissues. This is typically done to treat Prostate Cancer, with a success rate of around 93% (NCBI).

2. Minimally Invasive Prostatectomy

Minimally invasive Prostatectomy is a type of Prostate surgery that uses small incisions and specialized surgical instruments to remove the Prostate Gland. This approach can lead to less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times compared to traditional open surgery, having a success rate of around 53.3% (NCBI).

3. Robotic Prostatectomy

Robotic Prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive Prostate Surgery that uses a robotic system to assist the Surgeon. The robotic system provides high-definition 3D imaging and enhanced surgical precision, allowing the Surgeon to perform the complex operation through small incisions. The success rate is 86.5% (liebertpub).

4. Laparoscopic Prostatectomy

Laparoscopic Prostatectomy is a type of minimally invasive Prostate Surgery that involves the use of a Laparoscope, which is a small camera that provides a detailed view of the surgical site. The Surgeon uses specialized instruments to remove the Prostate Gland through small incisions. The success rate of Laparoscopic Prostatectomy is 82%-90% (Sciencedirect).

5. Open Prostatectomy

Open Prostatectomy with a success rate of 76% to 82% (ScienceDirect) is a traditional surgical approach to removing the Prostate Gland. It involves making a larger incision in the abdomen or Pelvic area to access the Prostate Gland and surrounding tissues.

How Do Spanish Doctors Perform Prostatectomy?

The technique used to perform a Prostatectomy will depend on the patient's individual diagnosis, including the size and location of the Prostate Gland and the Surgeon's preference and expertise. However, the general procedure for a Prostatectomy is as follows:

  • The duration of a Prostatectomy is anywhere between two to four hours.
  • The patient will be given anesthesia to ensure they are unconscious and pain-free during the surgery.
  • Spinal or epidural anesthesia is also administered to numb the lower body.
  • The patient's heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels are closely monitored throughout the procedure.
  • Depending on the type of surgery, incisions are made either from the belly button to the pubic bone (retropubic), through small incisions with a laparoscope (laparoscopic), or between the anus and scrotum (perineal).
  • The prostate gland will be carefully removed from the surrounding tissues and structures, such as the bladder and urethra.
  • Depending on the surgical technique used, the surgeon may also remove nearby lymph nodes or other tissues.
  • The surgeon will then reconstruct the urinary tract by connecting the bladder to the urethra, either directly or through the use of a surgical graft or stent.
  • The incisions will be closed with stitches or surgical staples, and the patient will be taken to a recovery area to begin the post-surgical healing process.
  • After the Anesthesia is in effect, the Doctor then, depending upon the type of surgery, proceeds to make incisions and remove the Gland.
  • A Jackson-Pratt drain is used to drain fluid, and a catheter is inserted to drain urine from the bladder.
  • The patient has to stay for around 3 to 5 days in the hospital.

Recovery and Aftercare Following a Prostatectomy

Recovery time can vary from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, depending on the type of procedure performed and the patient's individual condition. During the recovery period, patients will need to follow specific instructions provided by their healthcare provider, which may include:

  • After prostatectomy surgery, you will be moved to the recovery room for close monitoring of your vital signs.
  • Pain medication will be given to manage any discomfort.
  • Your physician may recommend minimal exercises to improve blood flow.
  • You will be discharged with a catheter in place, which will be removed after 5-10 days.
  • As you recover, you should gradually increase your normal daily activities.
  • Driving should be avoided until your surgeon permits you.
  • Sexual activity can be resumed after 6-8 weeks.
  • If you experience fever, redness, swelling, pain, or urinary incontinence, it's important to consult your physician.

Complications and Risks of Prostatectomy Surgery

Complications and risks of Prostatectomy surgery can include:

  • Bleeding: Bleeding may occur during surgery or after surgery. You'll receive blood transfusions if needed to prevent bleeding problems during or after surgery.
  • Infection: Infection is a risk with any type of invasive procedure and may occur after this type of surgery.
  • Blood Clots: Blood clots can form in your legs or arms, but they can also travel to other areas of your body, like your heart or brain, which could cause serious complications if not treated quickly.
  • Erectile Dysfunction: Erectile dysfunction occurs when there's a problem getting an erection or maintaining one long enough for sex
  • Incontinence: In some cases, a man may lose control of his bladder or bowel. This is most common if he has nerve damage related to the Prostatectomy surgery.
  • Bowel Problems: Bowel problems occur because the Surgeon removes part of the rectum during the operation. These problems can lead to diarrhea or constipation, requiring medication treatment.
  • Damage to Surrounding Organs or Tissues: The urethra, which carries urine from the bladder out of the body, is connected to the Prostate Gland. If it becomes damaged during surgery, urine can leak out slowly into the scrotum (the sac that holds testicles). This is called a urethral fistula.

Reviews about prostatectomy in Spain

Prostatectomy
Elis Markel, Germany:
I visited Hospital Quironsalud for a robotic Prostatectomy. The hospital is very clean and the staff is very friendly. I had a great experience with the doctors, nurses, and technicians that worked with me. The procedure went well, thanks to the team of experts at Hospital Quironsalud. I would recommend this hospital to anyone who needs any kind of surgery done.

FAQs

What is the difference between a radical and a simple Prostatectomy?

The main difference between a radical Prostatectomy and a simple Prostatectomy is the extent of the surgery and the organs or tissues that are removed. A radical Prostatectomy involves the removal of the entire Prostate Gland, as well as the seminal vesicles and nearby lymph nodes. This is typically the preferred approach for men with localized Prostate cancer. A simple Prostatectomy, on the other hand, involves the removal of only a portion of the Prostate Gland. This may be recommended for men with an enlarged Prostate Gland who are experiencing urinary problems.

Will I experience urinary incontinence after a Prostatectomy?

Urinary incontinence is a common side effect of Prostatectomy, particularly in the early stages of recovery. This is because the surgery can damage the muscles and nerves that control bladder function. However, many men are able to regain urinary control within a few weeks or months of the surgery. Pelvic floor exercises and other forms of physical therapy may be recommended to help improve urinary function.

Will I experience erectile dysfunction after a Prostatectomy?

Erectile dysfunction is another potential side effect of Prostatectomy, as the surgery can damage the nerves and blood vessels that control erectile function. However, the extent and duration of erectile dysfunction can vary depending on a number of factors, including the patient's age, overall health, and the specific surgical technique used. Medications, such as Viagra or Cialis, may be recommended to help improve erectile function.
