Melanoma is a kind of skin cancer that occurs in melanocytes that are responsible for the pigmentation of skin. It can be caused due to certain genetic mutations or excessive exposure to UV radiation.
Melanoma is a treatable cancer if it is detected on the initial stages when the melanoma has only spread on the superficial layer of dermis rather than lymph nodes. About 100,000 people in USA are annually diagnosed with melanoma every year.
