• Prof. Dr. Walter Klepetko practiced as a thoracic surgery specialist in Akh Vienna institute.
• Later on, he went to Papworth Hospital Cambridge in the United Kingdom, where he served as a thoracic surgeon.
• He also served in the leading institute in the USA, Massachusetts General Hospital, and also did his research along with the service.
• He also served in Wiener Privatklinik as a thoracic specialist and clinical oncologist.
• Currently, Dr. Walter is associated with Akh Vienna General hospital and is head of the department of the thoracic surgery unit.

Interesting facts

• Prof. Dr. Walter Klepetko initiated the Vienna lung transplant program in 1989, and annually 100 transplant procedures are performed in the clinic.
• He also introduced extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for the purpose of heart and lung transplants. This technique is very effective these days and is performed as a replacement for open surgery.
•  Dr. Walter has also performed lung transplants for the famous three-time world champion in formula one, Niki Lauda.

• In 2014, Prof. Dr. Walter Klepetko was awarded Grand Decoration of Honour from the Austrian Republic for providing his excellent services in surgery.

• During his more than 40 years of service, he wrote more than 700 research journals on thoracic surgery.
• He presided in many international conferences on thoracic and lung surgery.
• Dr. Walter Klepetko has arranged many seminars in Vienna among the medical community to introduce innovative techniques that are more effective than surgical methods.
