Dr. Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann is a surgery and visceral surgery specialist. He is a senior physician and the director of the peritoneal neoplasm treatment program at the Medical University of Vienna's general surgery department.

Educational background

Between 1985 and 1998, Dr. Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann studied piano at Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts.
In 1993-1998, he pursued his medical studies at the University of Vienna.
During 1998 and 1999, he finished his postdoctoral training at the University Clinic for Internal Medicine at the University of Vienna.
He also spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the same institute.
Following that, he received expert training at Vienna's University Clinic for Surgery.
In Hamburg, Germany, he also finished the SSO Advanced Course on the Management of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) following Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) in 2013.

Professional career

From 2006 to 2008, Dr. Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA.
On March 1, 2007, he was promoted to associate professor at the Medical University of Vienna.
On January 23, 2007, he received the Venia docendi for surgery from the Medical University of Vienna.
He also focused on developing in vitro test methods to evaluate DC-stimulated antitumor T-cell responses against incurable surgical malignancies and their relationship to in vivo DC efficacy.

Awards and achievements

In 2003, the city of Vienna granted Dr. Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann the prize for the advancement of integrative malignancy research.
In 2006, he was additionally granted the Austrian Society for Surgery's Theodor Billroth Prize.
In 2008, the American Association for Cancer Research gave him the ACR Aflac Award.
The Austrian Society for Surgical Oncology granted him the ACO-ASSO Prize in 2011.
In 2014, he was additionally granted the Austrian Red Cross Heinrich Treichl Prize.

Dr. Thomas Bachleitner-Hofmann is a member of several Austrian societies, including (GC) and (ACO-ASSO).
He is also a member of the Austrian Breast and Colorectal Cancer research organization (ABCSG)
