Dr. Antonio María de Lacy Fortuny is one the most experienced and successful gastrointestinal surgeon well-known for his 30 years of experience in laparoscopic surgeries. Dr. Antonio has performed myriad of successful procedures and treatments of colon cancer, rectal cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other abdominal diseases. Dr. Lacy can easily speak Spanish, Catalan, English, and French.

Educational Experience:

1980- 1986: Dr. Antonio Maria De Lacy completed his graduation from the University of Barcelona.
1987: He did Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona and completed a specialization in gastric and abdominal surgery from the same university.
1991: He got training at EMORY University in Atlanta.
Dr. Antonio María also trained at Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai Hospital, Cornell University.

Professional Career:

1988: Worked as a Surgery Associate at the Hospital Clinic Provincial de Barcelona.
1996-2001: Dr. Antonio Maria De Lacy got promoted as a Specialist in the same clinic.
1998-2003: He offered his services as an Associate Professor of Digestive and General Surgery at the University of Barcelona.
2001-2003: He served as a Professor, Surgery consultant, and Advisory Board member at the Hospital Clinic Provincial de Barcelona.
2007-2009: He became the President of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery.
Dr. Antonio Maria founded the General and Digestive Surgery Department in Quironsalud Barcelona and serves as the Head of the respective department there.

Achievements:

Dr. Antonio Maria De Lacy is the first Spanish Surgeon who did Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) in which he removed the gall bladder of a patient through his mouth.
He was also the first surgeon in his country who did Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) in Obesity Surgery (2009).
He also has the honor of being the first Spanish surgeon who resected rectal tumors through the anus (2010).
He received the SAGES International Ambassador Award in 2017.
Dr. Antonio Maria De Lacy is the first surgeon to treat esophageal cancer through laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.
